Ministry of Nurture - Member Care and Christian Ed
Christian Education
We believe that learning about Christ and his teachings is a life-long experience that can be best done in community. Therefore, the Christian Education Committee offers educational experiences for all ages.
E3Service - We will share the Good News through drama, story, song, videos, dialogue, and activities. The bulletin will include suggestions for activating faith at home, in school, and in the workplace. The service will include learning as well as worship and will replace our traditional Sunday School for children and youth.
Confirmation classes are also held for young people from 8th Grade and up who would like to become members of the church.
Vacation Bible School is a yearly favorite where children experience the excitement of faith, they learn through song, dance, drama, storytelling and experience.
Youth Group (grades 6-12) meet for activities and fellowship on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm. Throughout the year there are special events and retreats.
Educational opportunities for middle school and high school students are provided by the Youth Group which meets Sunday evenings from 6 to 8.
The Adult Class is led by Jean Malloy, Tony Nami, and Curly Rentner. They use various materials to explore the bible and its ramifications for our lives today. The class is held in Bertolet Lounge, the living room area of the former manse. The class meets at 9:30 and begins with coffee and donuts before delving into their studies.
Member Care
Member Care is always busy. Each Summer the Member care committee hosts the end of summer church picnic. "Make a Difference Day" happens each fall and helps the churches seniors with yard work and chores.
There is the Prayer Shawl Ministry and the fleece blankets for the men or friends of the members who need the fleece blanket. We give a blanket to all babies who are baptized in our church. All of the shawls and blankets and baptism blankets have a prayer sheet with them for encouragement and hope for the future.
Member care organizes coffee hour felloships on Communion Sundays lead monthly by a different session committee or church group each month.
For new members they make and deliver baskets with bread and juice and salt and a welcome prayer. The welcome goes as follows: We welcome you as a new member to our church community. We offer you bread that you may never be hungry, salt that you may have spice in your life, and juice that you may never know thirst. God gives each of us a gift, what we do with that gift is our gift back to God. We have asked our member care people to stay in touch with new members on a monthly basis for several months to help them settle in and feel at home in their new church family.
