Welcome!
You have come to hear the Word of God, and you shall hear it read and preached.
But we hope that by hearing it, you will also meet the Word of God, the Living
Word, Jesus, our Master and Savior. And we pray that you will leave our church
equipped to serve him more faithfully and effectively.

PRELUDE “Sarabande” Handel
PRAYER
HYMN “Change My Heart, O God” Sing the Faith 2152
Change my heart, O God, make it ever
true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like
you.
You are the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me, this is what I
pray.
Change my heart, O God, make it ever
true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like
you.
Leader: God
says “Come down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my word.”
People: “You,
Lord, are our Father. We are the clay,
you are the potter; we are all the
work of your hand.” (Isa 64:8) Leader:
The clay is so fragile; we are all so
vulnerable and breakable. Our creator has infinite
patience for working with such earthen vessels.
People: “You, Lord, are our
Father. We are the clay, you are the
potter; we are all the work of your
hand.” (Isa 64:8) Leader: We are safe in the potter’s hand. The potter’s gentle touch can transform the
mud into beauty and restore
brokenness to wholeness. People:
“You, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are
all the work of your hand.” (Isa 64:8)

CALL
TO CONFESSION
PRAYER
OF CONFESSION
O Artistic and Imaginative Potter, we are clay formed
by your hands, we are fired in the kiln of your love, you make us ready vessels
promising to fill us with your Living Love, your water of life, and your holy
word. You’ve formed us ready to receive,
open and empty. You gave us and give us
life, yet we live in ways that scratch our glaze, or crack our forms, until
we’re chipped and broken, leaking love, lacking true life. Forgive us, O God,
if we misused this gift of life and love you have given us. Repair us, make us whole again, that we might
be for you, your humble earthen vessels.
Amen.
SILENT PRAYER
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*GIVE GLORY TO GOD “Hear
the Good News of Salvation” 355
Hear the good news of salvation: Jesus died to show
God’s love.
Such great kindness!
Such great mercy! Come to us from
heaven above.
Jesus Christ, how much I love You! Jesus Christ, You save from sin!
How I love You!
Look upon me. Love me still and
cleanse within.
WE HEAR GOD’S WORD TO US
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
EPISTLE READING Pgs. 1005-1006 2
Corinthians 4:6-9
6 For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of
God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made
clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from
us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not
crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;
9 persecuted,
but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.

Pg. 666 Jeremiah 18:1-6

our likeness;

there I will let you hear my words.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and
there he was working at his wheel. 4 The vessel he was making of clay was
spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed
good to him.

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD
*AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH—The Brief Statement of Faith
We
trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God.
Jesus proclaimed the reign of God preaching good news to the
poor and release to the captives teaching by word and deed
and
blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the
brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all
to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition
Jesus was crucified suffering the depths of human pain and giving his
life for the sins of the world. God
raised Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of
sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. Amen.

Prayers of Jesus: Is God really like a stern judge or a cranky
neighbor? What's the key to having our prayers answered? If you
