Welcome!
You have come to hear the Word of God, and you shall hear it read and preached.
But we hope that by hearing it, you will also meet the Word of God, the Living
Word, Jesus, our Master and Savior. And we pray that you will leave our church
equipped to serve him more faithfully and effectively.

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: God
created us as a people with many senses.
People: If we
listen we can hear God. If we open our
eyes we can see God. Leader:
God is as close as the bread and cup we
touch during communion.
People: As we
receive the gifts of the table, we taste the sweetness of God’s love and are nourished by the strength of God’s
glory.
Leader: As the aroma of fresh bread fills the
air, let our words of worship and praise be lifted
up to the Lord.
People: Let us worship God
with our heart, our strength, our spirit, and all our senses. Amen.

GOSPEL READING Pg. 892 Luke 4:1-13
4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the
5 Then the devil
led him up and showed him in
an instant all the kingdoms of the world.
6 And
the devil said to him, “To you I will give their
glory and all this authority; for it has been given over to me, and I give it
to anyone I please. 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will
all be yours.” 8 Jesus answered him, “It is written,
‘Worship
the Lord your God,
and serve
only him.’ ”
9 Then the devil
took him to
‘He will
command his angels concerning you,
to protect
you,’
11 and
‘On their
hands they will bear you up,
so that
you will not dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
12 Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to
the test.’ ” 13 When the devil had finished every test,
he departed from him until an opportune time.

ANTHEM (11:00 am) “Amazing Grace” arr. John Ness Beck
OLD TESTAMENT READING Pgs. 481-482 Psalm
34:8-22
8 O
taste and see that the Lord is
good;
happy are those who take refuge in him.
9 O fear the Lord, you his holy ones,
for those who fear him have no want.
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger,
but those who seek the Lord
lack no good thing.
11 Come, O children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Which of you desires life,
and covets many days to enjoy good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil, and do good;
seek peace, and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord
is near to the brokenhearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the
righteous,
but the Lord
rescues them from them all.
20 He keeps all their bones;
not one of them will be broken.
21 Evil brings death to the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
22 The Lord
redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD
*AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH—The Brief Statement of Faith
We
trust in Jesus Christ, fully human,
fully God. Jesus proclaimed the
reign of God preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives
teaching by word and deed
and
blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the
brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling
all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition
Jesus was crucified suffering the depths of human pain and
giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised Jesus from the dead, vindicating
his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death
to life eternal. Amen.

TO DEDICATE OUR GIFTS
From the
abundance entrusted to us, we offer up the best we can give. Guide our use of this precious trust, that it
may be spent in ways you choose, in places where you would send us, for the
sake of people among whom you wish to dwell. May we bear witness to your abiding love, not
only with money but with dedicated lives. Allows us to be instruments of assurance and
compassion in our homes and wherever our journeys lead. Amen.

Like Jesus in 2010: How did the Son of God grow as a man? How does
this guide our own growth as men and women? 2) A video series on The
Prayers of Jesus: Is God really like a stern judge or a cranky
neighbor? What's the key to having our prayers answered? If you
could secretly tape Jesus praying, what would you hear? What's all this
have to do with Monday morning? Join us in the Bertolet Lounge on
Sundays at 9:45 a.m.
