Welcome!
You have come to hear the Word of God, and you shall hear it read and preached.
But we hope that by hearing it, you will also meet the Word of God, the Living
Word, Jesus, our Master and Savior. And we pray that you will leave our church
equipped to serve him more faithfully and effectively.

CALL
TO CONFESSION
PRAYER
OF CONFESSION
Holy God hearing of Jesus’ Transfiguration, we become
aware that we ourselves need to be changed. Sin stains our lives and soils our hearts. We are seemingly incapable of doing good and
the truth is often far from us. Cleanse
us with your love. Wipe away our
transgressions. Purify us, so that we
might begin again to follow in the way
of Jesus Christ. Amen.
SILENT PRAYER

*GIVE GLORY TO GOD
“What Star Is This, with
Beams So Bright” (v. 4) 68
To God the Father, God the Son,
And Holy Spirit, Three in one,
May every tongue and nation raise
An endless song of thankful praise.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
GOSPEL READING Pgs. 900-901 Luke 9:28-36
28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him
Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and
his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and
Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking
of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at

ANTHEM (11:00 am) “Beautiful Savior” R. Nagy
EPISTLE
READING Pgs. 1005-1006 2 Corinthians 4:5-12
5 For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as
Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of
God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made
clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from
us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not
crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;
9
persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life
of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. 11 For while we live, we are always being given up to death for
Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be made visible in our mortal flesh.
12 So death is at work in
us, but life in you.

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD
*AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH—Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the
Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son
our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended
into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall
come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy
Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of
sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
